Waking Up with Low Blood Sugars Sucks

By: Levi Blackman

One thing I really hate is waking up in the morning with a low blood sugar. Most of the time is seems to happen 10 minutes before my alarm is set to go off, and it really screws up my whole morning routine. Not only can I not think right because of the panic from the low blood sugar, I have a whole new set of problems I have to mess with.

My shower is delayed, and in a rush to fix my blood sugar I over treat and have to deal with a energy draining high blood sugar which just makes the rest of the day drag on and on. I seem to always over do it on the sugar in the morning, having little insulin in my blood to counteract the high fructose streaming into my body.

It always seems worse in the morning, like my body stays asleep until the very last possible moment, when my blood sugar has fallen so low I can barely get out of bed to get a Dr. Pepper.

For me, the morning time is the hardest to keep my blood sugar under control. I take my Lantus before I go to bed, and all night it is lowering my sugar until I am dangerously low.

Yes, adjustments need to be made to my insulin dose. Adjustments always need to be made to my insulin dose! I can’t sleep in because my blood sugar will fall. It is all a frustrating cycle.

I would give anything to be able to know my mornings wouldn’t be interrupted by the very uncomfortable surprise of being low.
