Oral Insulin Capsule Tested on Humans

A press release yesterday from the Israeli company Oramed Pharmaceuticals stated that they have completed Phase 1 of clinical trials, on of the most important trials because it determines the safety of a drug. Oramed hopes this oral insulin will be able to effectively treat Type II diabetes, but any advances in oral insulin is great news for any shot taking diabetic.

“A capsule option would be a first choice for diabetics if it was available and a best-case solution.” Nadav Kidron, CEO of Oramed said last January. “Oral insulin delivery is an idea with huge potential not only for patients who dislike needles but, with the insulin market generating $25 billion a year in worldwide revenues, it represents an enormous opportunity for drug developers as well.”

Perhaps shots will be a thing of the past for many suffers soon.
