You Are Not the Only One Who Needs a Cure
April 29, 2008 - 01:04 AM

I recently read a public forum short from the Salt Lake Tribune, and it really made me realize that diabetics as a whole are pretty pissed off about the fact that a cure is still in the works. I’m glad people are publicly speaking out about how unfair denying research funds for diabetes is, and praising those who are doing something about it. continue reading this article »

The Normal Blood Sugar Blues
April 29, 2008 - 01:04 AM

When you consistently have high blood sugars for an extended period of time, when you finally get your levels under control your normal blood sugars can sometimes feel like lows. I hate the way I feel when I have a low. It’s like all my energy is drained, and I can’t focus. Work becomes impossible. Pile on top of that the fact that my blood sugar is normal, and my body is just going to have to readjust from being so out of control, and it makes for a shitty day as a diabetic. continue reading this article »

Walking for a Cure : Its That Time of Year Again
April 24, 2008 - 07:04 PM

If you keep up with diabetes news you probably heard a dozen stories about how much money has been raised for research by determined individuals, diabetics and non-diabetes alike. I like this time of year, because stories like this give me hope.

So I figured I would try to persuade you to take part in one of these Walk for a Cures. To be completely honest, it’s not about the walking, its about the money, so if you hate walking just come and get a t-shirt at least. The walking is for those who want to display their perseverance and actually fight the disease physically.

And, if you didn’t already know they have a super cool website that makes things super easy. All you have to do is go to http://walk.jdrf.org/ and sign up for an account. Fill in your details and find a walk near you. It’s that simple.

So please, for the sake of not having to deal with this stupid disease anymore, give give and give some more.

I Dream of Cupcakes
March 20, 2008 - 05:03 AM

By: Levi Blackman
Once for spring break the family and I went to Europe; Germany actually. My sister was beginning a 6 month backpacking journey through all the places she had always dreamed about and we wanted to set her off on the right foot.

By the end of the trip I wanted a hamburger so bad I could cry. The moment we set foot in America I went to the first fast food joint we passed, and like the stereotypical American that the world hates I stuffed my face full. I was so tired of German food and the greasy American style everything satisfied me like never before. continue reading this article »

Possible Breakthrough for Diabetes
March 19, 2008 - 01:03 PM

To be honest this seems more like a fluff piece than any actual break-through, but it is amazing what they are doing these days by transplanting insulin producing cells. You can read more about it in this poorly written article from the Herald Sun, but I must warn you, this had to be the first article the writer ever wrote.

“(Taking the drugs) has its moments — there are a lot of side effects — but it is still preferable to passing out,” Ms Robinson said.

“Life is so much easier, I don’t have to worry all the time. For any diabetic that is the ultimate.”

I would say the ultimate would be not feeling like shit all the time and having to prick your finger all the time, but to each her own.

Getting Stoned is Better for Diabetes than Getting Drunk
March 14, 2008 - 06:03 PM

It is hard to resist temptation when you have diabetes. Most of your life is spent under restriction, and junk food and drugs can provide an escape from this.
